Renault ZOE scoops Best Green Car Award
Renault’s all-electric ZOE has been named as the greenest car, by the FirstCar Awards. Scooping the accolade ‘Best Green Car’ at this year’s inaugural FirstCar Awards, which was held at the Royal Automobile Club in London, the Renault ZOE was commended for its impressive green credentials.
The ZOE, which is one of Renault’s three 100% electric vehicles, was voted as the best green car in the new and first-time drivers segment, in a ceremony which celebrates vehicles designed for drivers who have recently passed their driving test.
Wowing the judges with its impressive real-world range, ease of use and value, the ZOE was miles ahead of the other competitors in the category. With a starting price of £18,240 (after UK government incentives and battery rental) the ZOE is very modestly priced for all its attributes and is well within the realms of a first-time buyer’s budget. The ZOE’s win displays the model’s standing as an unrivalled choice for those looking to buy an efficient, compact vehicle with a good range.
Commenting on the Renault ZOE’s win, David Motton, editor of FirstCar Theory and FirstCar Practical said:
“With zero tailpipe emissions, the Renault ZOE makes an ideal first car for environmentally conscious drivers. Compared with most plug-in electric vehicles, the ZOE is surprisingly affordable to buy new, and there are now plenty of used examples to choose from. What's more, the ZOE is easy to drive, has performed extremely well in Euro NCAP safety tests, and the range is a lot further than most new drivers will need to travel each day.”
The Renault ZOE is available in a choice of two trims: Dynamique Nav, and Signature Nav – both of which are fitted with the R110 electric motor and Z.E 40 battery, which provides a 186-mile real-world range. If you’re looking to buy the Renault ZOE, and you are likely to be charging your vehicle at public charge points whilst on the move, the Q90 option is best for you. This option allows for the ZOE to be charged from 0-80% in just over one hour.
With safety, style and comfort topping the car’s priority list, the ZOE comes with a Hands Free key card, automatic lights and wipers, rear parking sensors, cruise control, climate control, a seven-inch infotainment system and a voice-controlled TomTom sat nav, as standard. Step up to the Signature Nav model and drivers can expect a range of premium additions including leather upholstery, a BOSE audio system, heated seats, electrically folding door mirrors and a rear parking camera.
Vincent Tourette, managing director of Groupe Renault UK added:
“ZOE is already a multi-award winning electric vehicle, and winning this award illustrates, once again, just how versatile ZOE is. With its game-changing technology, which offers a 186-mile real-world range, combined with its easy driving style, stylish exterior and low cost of motoring, it is a clear choice for many”.
