Jaguar I-Pace revealed to the world

Hailed as the most significant concept vehicle of 2017, the Jaguar I-Pace concept wowed the world as the first fully electric vehicle to roll off the British brand’s factory line. The accolade, which was designated by the North American Concept Vehicle Awards in August 2017, picked up on the model’s beauty and futuristic design, and was described by one judge as being a ‘landmark in automotive technology’.

Fast-forward a few months, and the I-Pace is officially on the roads, following a live-video premiere, which saw the first completed vehicle rolling off the factory line in Austria.

“Where other companies talk about the future, we build it,” says Dr Ralf Speth, CEO of Jaguar Land Rover. “We have torn up the rule book to create the newest member of the PACE family, the all-electric I-PACE. With zero tailpipe emissions, no CO2 and no particulates, it moves us dramatically closer to our vision of a clean, safe and sustainable future.”

Placing Jaguar at the forefront of the electric vehicle revolution, the all-new I-PACE had been designed from the off as a purely electric vehicle, so every aspect of the vehicle is geared towards a zero-emission output. The electrified all-wheel drive performance from twin motors, delivers an impressive 0-100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds. There is also a 90kWh Lithium-ion battery which delivers a 480km range.

Ian Hoban is the vehicle line director at Jaguar I-Pace, “We set out with a clean sheet approach to harness new battery electric technology with an architecture engineered from the outset to optimise performance, aerodynamics and interior space. The result is the I-PACE – a true Jaguar and a truly driver-focused EV. For I-PACE customers – fuel stations are a thing of the past, after overnight charging they’ll wake up every morning with a ‘full tank of fuel’!”

The I-PACE entered the public realm recently through a live global broadcast, ahead of its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month. The self-proclaimed EV enthusiast, comedian Jack Whitehall, hosted a special live show which took place as the first I-PACE rolled off the production line in Plant Graz, Austria, where the car will be built.

Tipped to be the perfect everyday EV that consumers have been waiting for, the Jaguar I-PACE is on sale now from £63,495 (before government incentives). In addition to the S, SE and HSE derivatives, there will be a limited number of first editions available to purchase.

The Jaguar I-PACE has been designed and engineered in the UK, and will be assembled in Austria, as part of the brand’s manufacturing partnership with Magna Steyr.
